What HOTLIPS has done…

by Tim on January 1, 2010

Sorry for the long delay!

HOTLIPS has done a lot with the money you spent there almost 6 months ago (and they did so quite a while ago). These are just a few of the bigger changes they’ve made:

  1. Replacing the bay door in their commissary (which is behind their Hawthorne location, where the event was held). The old bay door was very inefficient at holding in heat and allowed a draft.
  2. Installing a variable speed control on the heating system, so the fans circulating air won’t run any faster than they’re needed.
  3. Adding a coil to the main oven that uses the oven’s heat to heat their water.

It’s quite impressive how much they were able to do with our money (considering a lot of the big things they’d already done, being a company that cares about the environment).

For now, we’re on hiatus, since a lot of the people involved in Carrotmob Portland went off to college in different parts of the country. If you’d like to take up the mantle and carry on the Carrotmob Portland tradition, please email me! I’ll give you what tips I can and connect you with a few people still in P-town who might want to help out. carrotmobpdx at gmail dot com

EDIT: To motivate you to start another Carrotmob, I uploaded a bunch of pictures from the event. You can find them all on my Carrotmob Flickr set.

Here are a few of the better pictures:

  1. Thanks for all your time and effort this year and for posting this update. To clarify, we moved the heat recovery coil from the the rear ovens where it was originally installed to the main front ovens. The rear ovens aren’t used that often while the front ones are on almost all day so we are able to recover a lot more waste heat and the system provides a lot more hot water. DY
